Mark Webber's quest to finish second in the Drivers' standings and claim his first win of the season suffered a blow on Sunday as he could only manage P4 at the Abu Dhabi GP.
The Australian started in fourth place on the grid and looked to be battling Jenson Button for the final podium position until a slow pit stop saw him lose time to the McLaren driver.
Red Bull responded by changing Webber's tyre strategy as they looked to steal a march on his rival, but it didn't work in the end as the 35-year-old crossed the finish line behind race winner Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Button.
"On the second stop, we fitted the option tyre again to cut the race into something different," he told BBC Sport.
"It was worth a bit of a punt. The two DRS [moveable rear wing overtaking aid] zones were tricky. The first one was easy but the second wasn't so easy. The DRS was a bit of a gimme today.
"We had pretty good pace and I was close to Jenson Button at the end of the first stint. Then we had a bad first pit stop. We lost a lot of time. It put us on the back foot. We lost track position. That's where we lost the podium."
