Bahrain's hopes of hosting a grand prix this year are still alive after Bernie Ecclestone promised to give them until "early June or something like that" to decide if they can reschedule the race.
The Gulf country was due to host the 2011 season opener on March 13, but the race was cancelled due to the ongoing political unrest in the Arab state.
The FIA originally gave the organisers until May 1 to make a decision on a possible new date for the race, but F1 supremo Ecclestone is prepared to extend the deadline.
"We need to wait a little bit to see exactly how progress is made," F1's commercial rights controller told Reuters, adding that he might have to say "bye-bye Bahrain" but a decision was not imminent.
"I suppose we'd be safe by early June or something like that.
"Things can change in a couple of weeks...so you don't know. All of a sudden everything might be peaceful in a month's time and they are happy to run the event and so we are happy to be there."
