Tyres key to McLaren's rise?

Tyres key to McLaren's rise?

According to reports in Germany, McLaren's upturn in fortune is in part thanks to the work of former Bridgestone man, Hiroshi Imai.

The Woking-based outfit have won back-to-back races, with Jenson Button's win in Hungary following Lewis Hamilton's victory in Germany.

There have been many theories bandied about regarding how McLaren have managed to increase their performance and the latest hands a lot of the credit to Iami.

Up until 2009, Imai served as former F1 tyre supplier Bridgestone's chief engineer but now works as an advisor at McLaren.

According to Auto Motor und Sport Imai has made major breakthrough's in the team's understanding of how the new Pirelli tyres work.

It is believed that McLaren have discovered that their tyre woe in Valencia was the result of brakes that were too hot, heat which was then transferred into the tyres.

Having worked out this conundrum, the team have apparently worked on their ventilation system in order to help with the cooling of the brakes.
