Maldonado: Better than results indicate

Pastor Maldonado believes Williams' recent results are not a true indication of their FW34's ability.

Williams have bagged just one point since the Venezuelen claimed a surprise pole position and victory at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Since then, Maldonado has failed to even see the chequered flag while his team-mate Bruno Senna was the one who bagged that single point in Monaco.

Maldonado, though, is adamant the team is better than their current spate of results.

"I think we've been good as well," he told Autosport when asked why Williams were 'so strong in Barcelona but had not been that quick since.'

"We've been good in Monaco because we were always there, top five. In Canada as well; I just missed the qualifying but I think it was a consequence because I got traffic.

"I did my best in only one lap I had. I just try, and I just missed, which can happen.

"From our point of view I think we've been competitive; but we didn't get any luck. The car is there; my pace is there; I'm always quick.

"We just need to try to improve. We are not the quickest on the track but we are not that far away."

Maldonado added that he believes more success could be around the corner for the team, they just need to find the balance in improving their qualifying pace without hurting their race pace.

"We need to work hard, especially with the car, to try to improve qualifying and the race. We need to try to get the balance, and the best compromise, between qualifying and race.

"I think we are not that far off, we just need to put everything together. The last couple of races, it was quite difficult to put everything together, but we are competitive. We need to just concentrate on our pace and everything."
