Button: Title a massive long shot

He may have put in a flawless display in Belgium to haul himself back into the title race, but Jenson Button is refusing to get ahead of himself.

Just days after his chances of winning the Championship were written off by many, the McLaren driver won from lights to pole at the Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday to close the gap to leader Fernando Alonso to 63 points.

With eight races still left in the 2012 season, Button is well and truly back in the hunt for the title.

However, the 32-year-old is not getting carried away after his Belgian GP victory.

"This is a great weekend for the team, and for me as well," he said.

"It is a good 25 points, and if we can keep fighting for victories like this there is still a small chance I can fight for that Championship.

"But going to Monza, I don't think about the Championship. We go there to do best job we can and bring back home most points we can.

"As I said before the race, it is a massive long shot to win the title, but today proves you can claw back 25 points very, very quickly."

Sunday's win was Button's first Belgian Grand Prix success and he admits it was a "very special" one.

"What can I say, this circuit is so special to most drivers with the history and the way it flows," he said.

"To get a victory from lights to flag is very special, especially as it has not been an easy year for me. We are going to enjoy this before we head to Monza and hopefully do the same."
