Schumacher's motivation intact

Michael Schumacher insists that his focus is entirely on this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix despite his long-term future being up in the air.

Mercedes confirmed last week that Schumacher will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton next season, leaving the German without a race-seat in 2013.

While Sauber have admitted an interest in the seven-time World Champion, and have a seat available after Sergio Perez was confirmed as Hamilton's replacement at McLaren, Schumacher's future remains uncertain.

However the 43-year-old will not be distracted by off-track affairs as he prepares for the race at Suzuka.

"My motivation is completely intact after the news last week, especially because Suzuka is one of the season's highlights for me," Schumacher said.

"I enjoy the circuit - it has sections that challenge you as a driver like almost nowhere else.

"Then there are the fans: they love motor racing and it is fun to feel their passion.

"Logically, it would also be nice to achieve a sporting highlight this weekend, although my chances are of course very limited because of my grid penalty. But I've always approached these things as a challenge."
