Newey: Previous success counts for nothing

Red Bull may have ended 2012 with both the Drivers' and Constructors' titles in their trophy cabinet, but Adrian Newey insists that it counts for nothing going forward.

It is the third season on the trot that the Milton Keynes outfit have claimed a clean sweep but Newey knows that a lot can change between the season-ending GP in Brazil and when the lights go out at the opening race in Australia.

"We have [finished the season strongly], but that's no guarantee of anything," he is quoted as saying by ESPNF1.

"We know what we hope to achieve over the winter but we have no idea what everybody else will achieve. We'll turn up in Melbourne and see, and that's the great thing about Formula One, you never know."

As Red Bull look to mold the title-winning RB8 into another challenge in the form of the RB9, team principal Christian Horner reveals their previous model has taught them a lot that can be applied going forward.

"We learned a lot of lessons this year and we've got to apply them," he said.

"I think that one of the strengths of this team is that we are never satisfied and we will always look inwards, whether that's engineers, technicians or people in production; all the different departments are looking at where we can improve and what we can learn. I think it's that spirit and desire that's kept us at the top for three years."
