'Alonso win wouldn't be bad'

Bernie Ecclestone is of the opinion that it wouldn't be a "bad thing" if Fernando Alonso won the Driver's Championship in 2013...

Red Bul Racing and Sebastian Vettel won the Constructor's and Driver's Championships for the third successive year in 2012, and while Alonso was in the hunt for the title until the final race, he finished three points off the pace after a dramatic finale to the championship in Brazil.

Now Ecclestone - during an interview with the Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, he admitted that he would prefer a different driver to win the title in 2013 and that Alonso is his personal favourite.

"Vettel is a true champion, but he's still young and can only improve in terms of being a character in the sport and in terms of his personality," Ecclestone told the publication.

"As for Alonso, after three years of dominance by Red Bull Racing it wouldn't be too bad a thing if we were to have a change at the top of the sport, perhaps with Ferrari leading the way again..."
