Marussia 'pretty excited' for 2013

Graeme Lowdon is adamant Marussia are confident ahead of the new season despite parting ways with Timo Glock.

Earlier this week, Marussia announced that they had terminated Glock's contract due to financial reasons, a move that saw their already outside title odds lengthen considerably with bookmakers like SportsBetting.ag.

"The ongoing challenges facing the industry mean that we have had to take steps to secure our long-term future," said team boss John Booth.

"Tough economic conditions prevail and the commercial landscape is difficult for everyone, Formula 1 teams included.

The German's race-seat is expected to go to a paying driver with some reports claiming it could be sold for around $5million.

But despite the obvious issues facing Marussia, Lowdon, the team's sporting director, says they have reasons to look forward to the upcoming season.

"It is difficult decisions like this that secure the future of the team," he told Autosport.

"Everyone at Banbury has worked really hard for quite some time now on the 2013 car, and we think it is going to be a big step forward.

"Everyone is still pretty excited about the coming season.

"The key thing is that we cannot wait to get testing and see how the car performs - and I think everyone is keen to see how we are going to do this season because we have worked really hard.

"It is a team game, everyone has put a lot of effort in, and we are quite hopeful about it."
