Button: We're obviously not quick

Button: We're obviously not quick

Jenson Button fears points may be the best McLaren can hope for at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

McLaren failed to shine in Friday's practice for the season-opening race in Melbourne and in fact also failed to make it into the top ten.

Button's best was only good enough for 11th place, 2.3s off the pace, while Sergio Perez was 13th.

The team's disappointing performance has already led to team boss Martin Whitmarsh revealing his concerns while Button reckons points and not podiums are on the cards.

"The way things have gone today, I think points would be very positive," the 2009 World Champion told Autosport.

"We're obviously not quick. The feeling is not good with the car, so we've got a lot of homework."

He added: "After the last test we knew we didn't have the pace. We couldn't have got anywhere near the lap times the other guys were doing in testing.

"We were over a second off, and it's even more here. And that's not right.

"You always hope that when you get to the first race and it's a bit warmer that things will turn your way, but at the moment they haven't."

The 33-year-old revealed that his new MP4-28 had a few "weaknesses" such as "ride" which is "a lot worse than we expected, so we have been working with that today trying to find a direction."
