Bernie Ecclestone's hope to implement double points for the final three races of the season won't get the backing of the Mercedes-powered teams, according to a report.

The FIA's decision to award double points to both the drivers and teams at this year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has come in for plenty of criticism from fans, drivers and other F1 role players.

There has also been a lot of finger pointing as to the reason for the move and whose idea it was with Ecclestone saying Sebastian Vettel's dominance forced them to rethink the rules and adding it was done to help Ferrari.

That's not the end of the story though as Ecclestone is now hoping to expand the controversial rule to the final three races of 2014, especially with Vettel favourite with Paddy Power to win a fifth consecutive title, but it would require unanimous backing from all the teams.

However, jamesallenonf1.com reports that "the word among teams backed by Mercedes is that they will block any upgrading of the final three rounds".

Adding: "A senior figure in one of the customer teams pointed out that 'turkeys are hardly likely to vote for Christmas', while Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said last week that F1 should listen to its audience - the fans - and take note of the angry reaction to the idea of double points."

Mercedes-backed teams and Ferrari have looked solid during the first pre-season test in Jerez and will be determined to steal a march on Renault-powered teams struggles and you can bet on this and more at Paddy Power.

Besides Mercedes, McLaren and Force India are the other teams using Merc engines.

Defending champions Red Bull, meanwhile, had a poor time in Spain, but they usually perform well during the latter stages of the season so would no doubt be in favour of the change.
