Rosberg: Qualifying will be crucial

Rosberg: Qualifying will be crucial

As their battle resumed in Montreal on Friday, Nico Rosberg reckons it is "definitely possible" he can beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position.

Last time out on in Monaco the German claimed the grid slot in questionable circumstances, which angered his team-mate Hamilton.

That carried through into the 78-lap race which was won by Rosberg with Hamilton finishing second.

However, this weekend it is the Brit who appears to have the advantage.

Not only has Hamilton won the Canadian GP on three occasions while Rosberg has yet to even reach the podium, but the Brit was also quickest in Friday's practice.

Hamilton posted a 1:16.118 in FP2 with Rosberg second, 0.175s off the pace.

The German, though, believes he can claw back time.

"I'm very satisfied," said the Championship leader. "I was very happy with the car and it was a really good day.

"We have good pace, we were expecting to be strong here and it looks to be going that way.

"Qualifying could be crucial - and if it is against Lewis, it could be very crucial."

Pressed as to whether he could achieve the grid slot ahead of his team-mate, he said: "It's definitely possible with the car I have."
