Red Bull full of praise for Ricciardo

Adrian Newey has admitted that Daniel Ricciardo has exceeded all expectations of his so far this year, with the Australian's attitude in the Red Bull the most impressive aspect of his tenure so far.

The Australian have outpaced his more illustrious team-mate Sebastian Vettel for large parts of the season and claimed the Milton Keynes team's first victory of the year last time out in Canada after Mercedes pair Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton hit trouble.

"Daniel has been massively impressive this year," Newey told Autosport ahead of this week's Austrian Grand Prix.

"He has certainly exceeded all our expectations.

"What I find amazing about him is how calm he is in the car. When he's on the radio it's like he's sitting down with a cup of tea and driving one-handed. It's quite remarkable.

"He's very calm, collected, takes everything in his stride, and he's really enjoying his job."

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner agrees with Newey, saying that the ease with which Ricciardo has adapted to featuring in a leading team is commendable.

"The way he has driven, the way he has made his passing moves, he has driven faultlessly all season," Horner said.

"He grabbed his opportunity [in Canada] and I am delighted for him that he won his first grand prix.

"There were questions asked when we chose him as our driver alongside Sebastian and I think he has demonstrated beyond all doubt that he fully deserves that position."
