Button unconcerned about his future

Jenson Button is not worried about his future as he sees no reason why McLaren won't extend his contract.

The British driver it out of contract at the end of this season and to date McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier have refused commit to a new deal.

"I cannot say yes and I cannot say now," he said during a McLaren Mercedes phone-in, adding the he is "evaluating and assessing every strategy for the future."

Boullier's comments were soon followed by McLaren CEO Ron Dennis urging Button to "try harder."

He told Sky Sports F1: "Do I want him to try harder? Of course I do.

"He is a highly paid grand prix driver, and yes we are not giving him the best car, yes it would be challenging for him to win in this car to say the least, but he could do his bit, and Kevin's got to make it as difficult for him as possible."

Button, however, has downplayed concerns about his future.

"I don't know why they wouldn't take me for next year," said the 34-yaer-old ahead of his home race at Silverstone.

"I think it's just the way it is for a big team, so we will leave it to the last moment to make a decision or to talk about contracts.

"It's not necessary to talk about it right now because we've other things to focus on, like making the car quicker.

"So we haven't spoken about it, and it's not something I've pushed for.

"I'm sure if I did push to sit down and talk about it we would, but I'm not doing that because when it happens it happens.

"This team need to score good points and I score good points for this team."

Pressed as to whether he would consider moving to another team should McLaren decide not to retain him, the 2009 World Champion told Press Association: "That's not on my radar because I feel I'll be here next year."
