Ferrari boss accepts Lauda apology

Marco Mattiacci has confirmed that Niki Lauda visited the Ferrari pits in Hungary to apologise for his "s**t" comment.

The Mercedes non-executive director laid into both Ferrari and McLaren, labelling both their 2014 cars "s**t".

He added that Mercedes should not be penalised just because "others are stupid."

Lauda later apologised via the media and on Friday visited the Ferrari garage at the Hungaroring to deliver his apology in person.

Ferrari team principal Mattiacci says it is all now in the past.

"Everybody is free to make comments," said Mattiacci.

"I have the utmost respect for Niki Lauda. For me, he is an iconic figure from my childhood, and in particular for Ferrari.

"He came to our pit to apologise. I honestly felt very uncomfortable that I should receive an excuse from such a Champion who has been put in the middle of something.

"It's clear he is a friend of Ferrari, and again I have the utmost respect for Niki, so chapter closed."
