Maldonado 'confident' of Williams future

Pastor Maldonado believes he will be a Williams race-driver next season despite several drivers being linked to his race-seat.

The Venezuelan, who made his debut at the start of this season after bring with him sponsorship from PDVSA, has bagged just one point in 18 grands prix starts.

But that has little to do with his own performances and more to do with Williams' under-performing FW32 as even the hugely-experienced Rubens Barrichello has only netted four.

However, F1's rumour mill has linked other drivers to his race-seat with Williams believed to be talking to both Kimi Raikkonen and Force India's Adrian Sutil.

"I'm very confident," Maldonado said when asked if he would remain with Williams next season. "I don't know exactly what is happening, but I'm not worrying about it.

"I'm doing well, I'm doing my job the best I can and I feel a lot of confidence from my country, my sponsor and the team. I am really happy to be here and I would like to continue."

However, Maldonado's sponsorship could be under threat after questions were raised in the Venezuelan parliament about Venezuelan state-owned oil and gas giant PDVSA's backing of the driver and his team.

The 26-year-old insists he's not fazed by the political issues surrounding his sponsorship.

"It (PDVSA) is a responsible company, very serious, and I believe they do everything the correct way.

"This is a big project, to not only to have Pastor Maldonado in F1, but to promote the country and to improve all similar sporting situations."
