Gearbox penalty for Maldonado

Pastor Maldonado's Canadian GP weekend has gone from bad to worse after he was slapped with a five-place penalty for changing his gearbox.

The Venezuelan, who has struggled ever since his Spanish success, was on course for a top-ten qualifying position before crashing his FW34 at the Wall of Champions.

As a result Maldonado qualified down in 17th place.

However, he will now start the Canadian Grand Prix P22 after Williams opted to change his gearbox, incurring an automatic five-place penalty.
