Vettel: I didn't know where Jense was

Sebastian Vettel doesn't believe he did anything wrong in his overtaking move on Jenson Button despite it being investigated by the stewards.

The German finished his home grand prix at Hockenheim in second place after passing Button on the penultimate lap.

However, Button immediately complained to his team that Vettel had all four wheels off the track when he overtook him, a call backed up by television replays.

This prompted the German GP stewards to announce that Vettel was under investigation.

The two debated the matter as they waited to climb onto the podium.

Button said to Vettel: "They are going to investigate your overtake you know."

The German responded: "I didn't know where you were."

The Red Bull racer was also asked about it by Niki Lauda in the post-race celebrations on the podium.

"I wasn't sure if he (Button) was on the inside or not," Vettel said. "The last thing you want to do is make contact.

"When we were side-by-side, I tried to give him enough room but it's difficult to see.

"I went wide. We were all struggling with tyres, Jenson in particular, which is why I was able to pass him."

Should Vettel be found guilty, he could incur a 20 or 25s penalty, which would drop him to sixth or seventh.
