Mark Webber was left to rue team-mate Sebastian Vettel's radio issues, which cost him dearly in Sunday's Monaco GP.
With Vettel leading the grand prix he was the first of the Red Bull drivers to pit. However, the German was having radio problems, which meant the mechanics were not ready when he came in for his stop on lap 16.
By the time the German pulled into the pit box, Red Bull had already notified Webber that he was to come in for his stop, forcing the Aussie to wait as the pit crew went into a mad dash to get Vettel's stop sorted.
The wait meant Webber dropped down to 14th place and had to spend the rest of the grand prix fighting his way back through the field.
"We didn't really go long enough on the first stint, but that's pretty normal for me on these tyres, I just can't go long," he told ESPN.
"That compromised me and then when I arrived at the pits we obviously didn't have any tyres out, so I arrived and the boys were running around and there was obviously a communication problem.
"They called me in, the team called me in. Obviously when you have to wait around here you lose track position and then you have to wait behind people for the majority of the race, so not bad to get fourth from there."
On his way up to fourth, though, Webber came up behind a "pretty customer" in the form of Kamui Kobayashi, who did well to hold the Aussie off.
However, a restart following Vitaly Petrov's accident meant Webber was finally able to overtake the Sauber driver.
"Obviously he's a pretty difficult customer and you have to get it right with him. I followed him for about 25 laps in the middle of the race and I think he hit most fences around the track.
"He was pushing and it's not easy in the tunnel with everything else that has happened this weekend you want to get it right. So yeah, it (the restart) helped me but I don't know why we restarted the race for the last five laps."
