Berger: Ferrari need young, fast drivers

Gerhard Berger believes Ferrari will make a mistake if they decide to hang onto Felipe Massa for another season.

Massa looked like he was on his way out of Ferrari after a stuttering start to the 2012 campaign, but he now appears to be edging closer to a new deal with the Maranello squad after his form picked up during the latter stages of the season.

Force India duo Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta have also been linked with the seat but Fernando Alonso recently admitted that he prefers having Massa as a team-mate than some of the "little names" who have mentioned.

Berger, though, believes that Massa's second-place finish at the Japanese Grand Prix shouldn't be enough to save his seat as Ferrari need fresh blood.

"This makes no sense," he told Auto Bild. "It's never just about one race. I would put Hulkenberg or di Resta in his place.

"They are young and fast - exactly what Ferrari need to fight for the Constructors' title."
