Boss: Button was unlucky

Martin Whitmarsh reckons Jenson Button was "unlucky" in Saturday's Korean qualifying as he was caught by a late yellow flag.

As those in Q2 fought for a place in the final pole position shoot-out, Daniel Ricciardo stopped his car out on track with a suspected gearbox issue.

With the Toro Rosso parked on the side of the track the yellow flags were waved meaning drivers had to slow down.

And while it remains to be seen if everyone complied with the rules, Button did and finished down in 11thp lace.

"Jenson was unlucky, he was up until the yellow flags came out but that's the pressure of qualifying," Whitmarsh told the BBC.

"You've got to get it right every lap.

"It's disappointing but he's got new option and new primes left so he's got lots of choices.

"He did a fantastic long run yesterday. We'll try something different and see where we can get him."

As for Button, he says it was just one of those things that happens.

"On my final Q2 run, I lost time because of the yellow flags," said the Brit.

"I knew I could have gained a couple of extra tenths in that final sector, but as things panned out I couldn't improve because of the yellows.

"It's just one of those things, but I'll go forward from here tomorrow."
