Heidfeld: I have a valid contract

Nick Heidfeld has made it clear that he will not give up his Renault seat without a fight.

Renault have confirmed that the 34-year-old will be replaced by Bruno Senna at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix as well as the Italian GP in a fortnight. Although the team revealed on their website that their "intention is to give Bruno the opportunity to race for the rest of the season" they are unable to make it official as "some legal issues have not been fully resolved". They also added that "Heidfeld remains contracted to the team".

The 183-race veteran was handed a Renault drive earlier this year after Robert Kubica was ruled following a horrific crash during a rally.

Reports claim the Heidfeld went to court on Wednesday to stop the Enstone-based team from going ahead with their plans to fire him and his legal hearing will take place in two weeks' time.

The German apparently arrived in the paddock on Thursday with his Renault uniform and told reporters: "My position is I have a valid contract and I want to drive.

"I'm an F1 driver and I want to drive. I've still a good feeling with the team, I've met a lot of people and the atmosphere doesn't change from one day to the other."
