Glock: Schumacher will be back

Timo Glock is convinced seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher will return to Formula One.

The speculation surrounding Schumacher's potential comeback after three years away is beginning to reach fever pitch.

The suggestion is Schumacher has already agreed a deal to race for Mercedes GP, although the 40-year-old has so far refused to confirm or deny the rumours.

German compatriot Glock, however, who will next year drive for the new Virgin Racing team, firmly believes Schumacher will be in F1 in 2010.

"There's still a lot of speculation, but in the end he is a crazy race driver, and he wants to come back to racing," said Glock.

"It's not enough for him to just do go-kart races, or go to the Race of Champions at the end of the year.

"The flame is still there, it's still burning within him, and it will be great for Formula One if he comes back.

"For me, my personal feeling, it is quite obvious he is coming back.

"For Formula One and the fans it would be a big boost, a seven-time world champion coming back after three years out.

"It would be a mega highlight, and to drive for Mercedes, you would have a German driver in a German car."

To be on the same grid next year as Schumacher would be a dream for Glock, although he knows he will face a struggle anyway as Richard Branson's Virgin Racing simply look for respect in their first year.

"To beat Michael would be a good year for us, but we have to concentrate on ourselves, and not look at what others are doing," added Glock, who spent the previous two years in F1 with Toyota.

"We have to focus on our job, that's what is important."

Glock, fit again after missing the final two grands prix of last year with a leg injury following a smash in Japan, added: "As to how far we can go, it's difficult to say at the moment.

"But I think the potential is there. When I met the team I was very impressed and I know this is the right way for me to go."

Lucas di Grassi has today been confirmed as Glock's team-mate after spending the last four years in GP2, and the final two of those as test and reserve driver with Renault.
