Sebastian Vettel had the measure of his rivals in Friday night's practice at Singapore, dominating on the medium and supersoft tyres.
Unlike the earlier session, Friday night's outing in Singapore got off to a frantic start with the drivers quickly getting down to business on the medium Pirelli tyres.
Adrian Sutil set the first time of the night, a 1:51.1, but despite improving to a 1:49 soon found himself down in 14th place as his rivals upped the pace.
The Red Bulls and Mercedes were soon engaged in an intriguing tussle before the Bulls pulled away.
Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel traded fastest lap times, each edging the other by tenths while the Mercs lined up behind and ahead of Fernando Alonso.
After their first run of the night, the drivers pitted for a swap to the supersoft tyres for the first time this weekend.
Vettel found impressive speed on his first lap, clocking a 1:44.249, which two seconds up on his previous best. And with Webber smacking the wall on his hot lap, Vettel took the P1 slot by 0.604s over his team-mate.
Nico Rosberg took third ahead of Lewis Hamilton as once again the two Mercedes drivers lined up behind the Red Bulls. Alonso was fifth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. Romain Grosjean, who missed the start of FP2 with brake cooling issues, took fifth on his supersoft run.
After another brief break, the drivers switched to race preparation work with Vettel lapping in the 1:50s while most of his rivals were in the 1:51s.
Pastor Maldonado became the first crasher of the weekend when he hit the barriers at Turn 13 nose first. The Williams driver was able to limp back to the pits for repairs and yet still couldn't keep his car on the track upon his return.
Back at the front, as their tyres began to wear, the lap times began to fall off but it was still Vettel who had the edge over his rivals.
