Police to hold Schu press conference

French police will hold a press conference on Wednesday to reveal the progress they have made with their Michael Schumacher skiing accident investigation.

Seven-time World Champion Schumacher was admitted to hospital on December 29 with serious head injuries with reports saying "he was fighting for his life" following a ski accident in the French Alps.

Patrick Quincy, the attorney for Albertville, has told French news agency AFP that he will hold a press conference at 11am on Wednesday to give an update on their progress.

Local investigators have already examined Schumacher's helmet, which had a camera fixed to it, while they have also requested a copy of a video from an eyewitness.

A 35-year-old steward was filming his girlfriend with a smartphone when he captured by chance the moment when the legendary Formula One driver hit his head against a rock.

On Monday, Grenoble University Hospital released its latest update on Schumacher's condition, confirming that he continued to be "considered as stable" but remained "critical".

Over the weekend, former F1 driver Philippe Streiff claimed Schumacher's life was no longer in danger, but Monday's statement also warned against accepting reports from any sources other than the hospital itself and the ex-driver's management.

"The privacy of the statement demands that we are not going into details of his treatment, and this is why we do not plan any press conferences, nor give out written press releases, anymore for the time being," the statement added.

"We again insistently ask you to...stick to the information given by the medical team in charge of the patient or his management, as this is the only valid information."
