Schumi stable but still critical

The authorities at the Grenoble hospital where Michael Schumacher remains in a stable, yet critical, condition have requested the media to respect the privacy of his family.

After sustaining severe head injuries during a skiing accident in the French Alps, the seven-time World Champion was admitted to the Grenoble University, where he has been in a medically induced coma for the last eight days.

While no new information about the 45-year-old German's condition was made available over the weekend, his manager Sabine Kehm was forced to address the media after former F1 driver Philippe Strieff reportedly claimed that Schumacher's life wasn't in danger any more.

Then on Monday, the hospital reiterated that the Ferrari legend's condition remains "critical", although he is in a "stable" condition.

The hospital added, "for the time being", no further updates would be made public and that any reports that aren't released by its medical team or Schumacher's management should be dismissed.

"The privacy of the statement demands that we are not going into details of his treatment, and this is why we do not plan any press conferences, nor give out written press releases, anymore for the time being," the statement added.

"We again insistently ask you to...stick to the information given by the medical team in charge of the patient or his management, as this is the only valid information."

The prosecutors that are investigating the accident will address the media in Albertville on Wednesday morning regarding their findings.
