Alonso not fazed by refueling changes

Tuesday 08-December-2009 08:09

Fernando Alonso has dismissed suggestions that the new ban on refueling will force drivers to change their driving styles.

From next season cars will not be permitted to refuel during a race and therefore from the outset will have to carry enough fuel to last them from start to finish.

The extra fuel will add to the weight of the car and put more pressure on the rear tyres, causing many to suggest that drivers will need to adjust their racing technique to pay more attention to the conservation of fuel and tyres.

Despite this the Spanish star does not believe the ban will have a major impact.

"I do not believe that it is going to be decisive, nor do I believe that it is going to change the races much," Alonso told Marca newspaper.

The former World Champion added that the first 10-15 laps of the race would be crucial in conserving the tyres.

However, the 28-year-old maintains this will not have a major affect the way drivers approach their racing, stating "I do not believe that driving styles will change for this reason."
