Hamilton's run of form continues in GermanyTuesday 8th July 2008Lewis Hamilton was the man to beat on the opening day of testing at Hockenheim, outpacing title rival Kimi Raikkonen by a quarter of a second.
The two drivers, who are tied at the top of the Drivers' standings together with Felipe Massa, came head-to-head on the first day of testing, just 48 hours after Hamilton lapped Raikkonen at the British GP.
And the 23-year-old once again had the upper hand as he tested McLaren's new shark finn engine cover.
The McLaren driver, who completd 75 laps, posted a best time of 1:15.483 to beat Raikkonen by a quarter of a second.
Nico Rosberg was third quickest, ahead of Adrian Sutil who put in an impressive performance for Force India. However, the German was still a full second off Hamilton's place.
Sebastien Bourdais continued Toro Rosso's good run of form with a fifth best time at the German track, beating Toyota test driver Kumai Kobayashi and BMW's Nick Heidfeld.
Nelson Piquet Jr completed the top eight ahead of David Coulthard and Alex Wurz.
Wurz, who was over two seconds off the pace, tested a new nose for Honda and brought out the only red flag of the day.
