Schumi: Vettel is not me

Monday 22nd September 2008

Michael Schumacher has warned against comparing Sebastian Vettel to himself, saying it's not fair on Germany's newest race winner.

Vettel, who is dubbed by the German media as 'Baby Schumi', once again evoked memories and comparisons to the seven-time World Champion when he clinched the victory for Toro Rosso at the Italian GP.

And standing on the podium the similarities were uncanny as the German and Italian national anthems rang out, reminiscent of the days when Schumacher was winning.

The former Ferrari driver, though, has urged people not to compare Vettel to himself, saying the 21-year-old is his own man.

"Leave the poor boy alone," Schumacher told the Bild newspaper.

"I know how I hated to be continuously compared to others and I wouldn't like for him to be put into that same corner.

"He is who he is and he is making his own name for himself."

"erm if my memory serves me well, this young man won by driving the perfect race, not by a a voice saying let schummaker past or we will sack you, hopefully this young and talented driver will get the recognition he rightly deserves by continuing success with a team with half the resources of others, well done young man"

"i agree with hugorune and ElvisBeavis, lewis is just a joke to F1. on the 1st year he already have his own biography. what a joke. he also a chearter (remember 2007, alonso do the car setup then lewis just have to wait and copy then win races.)i hope he will not be the world champion all of his life.
