Another piece of the 2009 driver line-up jigsaw has fallen into place after BMW confirmed that they have retained both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld for next season.
Kubica was always assured of his seat at BMW after securing the team their first ever pole as well as their first race during the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this year. The Pole is currently third in the Drivers' Championship with 64 points and still has an outside chance of winning the title.
Although he has been as successful as his team-mate, Heidfeld has still managed to pick up four second-place finishes this season.
The team also confirmed that Christian Klien will stay on as test driver.
"We see Nick and Robert as a strong driver pairing and Christian as an experienced test driver," BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen said.
"We are in no doubt that we will again achieve our ambitious aims with them in the team's fourth year."
The announcement comes hot on the heels of Williams' decision to keep Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima as their drivers for next year. Ferrari and McLaren have also said their line-ups will stay the same for next season while Sebastian Vettel will partner Mark Webber at Red Bull.

"With Willams, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and BMW having set their driver lineups for 2009, what's left?
RENAULT - Alonso / DiGrassi (?) / Bourdais (?) I think Piquet is done; maybe Bourdais? A Frenchman on a French team? Mais bien sur!
TOYOTA - Trulli / Glock - no need to change this line up.
HONDA - Button / ___________? Rubens is done as well. Would be funny if Sato was recalled to the works team.
FORCE INDIA - Fisichella / Sutil; no reason to change
TORO ROSSO - Bourdais (?) / Sato (?) / Buemi (?) / Senna (?)"

"This is what I have been expecting. Both drivers are experienced and fast. BMW will have a good prosper with Kubica taking a wheel. Nick seems to be a strange guy. Sometimes I have a feeling that he is jealous of his teammate performance. But I was wondering what would happen if Alonso joined BMW . I think that his friendship with Robert would be over very quickly. Alonso is very ambitious guy but he has achieved nothing this year. I don`t think Alonso would like to compete with Kubica in the same team. He could have lost such fight and he knows it. That is why he decided to stay in Renault. "

"I am so glad alonso isnt coming to BMW...i find his attitude and character unfitting for BMW, more of a Ferrari style or McLaren style honestly. I enjoy being the underdog that comes from no where and BAM...hits a pole or wins a GP...cant wait to see the duo again in 2009."
