BMW duo unimpressed by 'ugly' car

Wednesday 19th November 2008

The new-look BMW car doesn't appear to have too many fans, especially in the BMW garage.

The Hinwil-based squad is running an interim car that is fitted out with several 2009 specifications during testing in Barcelona.

Robert Kubica and test driver Christian Klien believe the car, which sports a new wide front wing as well as a much smaller rear wing, is one of the "ugliest Formula One cars".

"I never saw such a sexy car," Austrian Klien joked after testing. "It looks very, very new to everybody.

"To me, for the moment, it's the worst (looking) Formula One car I have ever seen. It just doesn't fit together.

"But we will get used to it. There will be a lot of modifications until the first race in March."

Kubica echoed Klien's comments to German broadcaster RTL, saying: "We all agree that the appearance of our cars are not the best."

However, there is one thing he likes about the "ugly" new car. "I can see a lot more in the mirrors."

Kubica, though, downplayed suggestions that the sweeping changes will make a major difference to the cars that will be used next season.

"Of course we lose a lot of downforce compared to the 2008 car," the Pole told the BMW website.

"But because we are back from grooved to slick tyres, we have substantially more grip in slow corners.

"So with some more development I don't think there will be too big a difference between the 2009 and 2008 cars."

"if you think the car is ugly-maybe it suits the drivers"

"The front wings of the BMW lookks like something that came out of a WW1 airplane. Quite ugly but I hope it becomes a top car for next year."

"They're right... The BMW Sauber is U-G-L-Y!!! The rear wing doesn't fit with the overall look of the car. I'm sad for the advertisers, for less advertisments on the rear wing."
