Buemi keeping his head clear

Wednesday 19th November 2008

Sebastien Buemi believes the days of teams looking for two "older heads" are long gone.

GP2 driver Buemi is fighting it out with current Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Bourdais and former Super Aguri racer Takuma Sato for a seat at STR next season.

Buemi didn't do too badly on the first day of testing in Barcelona. The 20-year-old was just three-tenths slower than Sato in first place.

The youngster says he is learning quickly and says teams are no longer put off by inexperience.

"I am young and I learn quickly. I think that all teams now try to have an experienced driver and a young driver, as you see for example, at Renault," he told the official Formula One website.

"The immediate past has shown that the young guys don't need too long to deliver results. It's not like in the past, when there was the thinking that if you want results you'd better take someone with experience.

"Lately, young drivers have shown that they can deliver almost straight away. The team will analyse everything before they make a decision - then we'll see."

The Swiss driver says he is focused on the task ahead and is trying not to think too much about the future.

"I am doing my best, trying to be as fast as possible and work as closely as possible with the team," he added.

"Monday was a really good day, as we managed to do everything that we had planned - and I am looking forward to the rest of the test.

"I know how important this test is for my future, but the trick is not to think too much about it, because in the end, whether you do think about it or not, it doesn't change anything. So I prefer to keep my head clear and just give my best performance."
