Fisichella not fazed about his future

Friday 21st November 2008

Giancarlo Fisichella insists that his future is safe with Force India despite speculation that McLaren might have a say in who gets a spot in the 2009 line-up.

Despite confirming Fisichella and his 2008 team-mate Adrian Sutil for next season, doubt was cast over Force India's line-up when the team signed a technical support deal with McLaren-Mercedes.

Under the deal McLaren-Mercedes will provide the backmarker outfit with engines, gearboxes and the new KERS system, sparking some rumours that they could also decide the team's line-up.

Those rumours gained momentum earlier this week when McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa got behind the wheel of the VJM-01 at Barcelona.

But despite the Spaniard testing for his team, Fisichella is confident he will be retained by Force India for next year's Championship.

"I'm not worried, I don't think there will be any problem for me," Fisichella told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I have a signed contract for another year and Vijay Mallya has announced that the 2009 drivers will still be myself and Sutil."

Meanwhile de la Rosa was laid back about the possibility of a racing spot and insisted that he will take whatever opportunity comes his way.

"Whatever comes, it will come. My job is to test with McLaren and I'm very grateful for having tested a Force India," the Spaniard told the EFE news agency.

"It has been two very intense days and I tested a million things. My experience tells me I can't rush things or build my hopes up."

"When Montoya left F1 , Pedro got his chance to race and blew it. He is a better tester than a racer , leave it at that."
