Valentino Rossi reckons he could be in with a shout should he ever compete in a Formula One grand prix.
The MotoGP Champion is testing with Ferrari at Mugello for two days this week, clocking a 1:22.5 on Thursday before bad weather cut short his running.
His lap time was only around 1.5 seconds slower than that posted by Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer, sparking a confident assessment from Rossi that he could perhaps fight for wins in F1 races.
"The times we did in Fiorano, here and in Valencia have been analysed and with some good hard work and lots of effort I could become a good Formula One driver," the Italian, who previously tested for Ferrari in 2006, told AFP.
"It's difficult to say whether or not I would win, but the potential is definitely there."

"One and a half seconds may as well be an hour in F1 qualifying. Compare Loeb's first efforts in the Red Bull - now THAT'S potential! "

"You guys are being a little harsh, i think Rossi will improove, he has only had a handful of tests and he is only 2 seonds away from one of the sports finnest test drivers, if badoer was miles of a F1 drivers pass he wouldn't be a good F1 test driver because it would give bad feedback. Rosse is correct give him a full test role for a year and he will be competitive at least in a couple of races."
