The organisers of the 2010 British GP at Donington Park are looking to hold F1's first 'car-free' grand prix. However, it's public cars, not F1 cars that will be missing.
Donington Park is set to take over the hosting of the British Grand Prix from 2010 in a multi-season deal signed earlier this year with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
And one of the initiatives the race's organisers are looking to implement is a car-park free race whereby spectators will all arrive using public transport to help ease traffic congestion.
"This will be the first public transport grand prix," Simon Gillett, Chief Executive of Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd told the Nottingham Evening Post. "We are not bringing cars here.
"We are looking to use public transport from all the major conurbations, the airport and the Parkway station."

"I think that, very sadly, there will not be a GP at Donnington for numerous reasons including planning and financial ones. This suggestion of busses is almost proof that Donnington cannot cope. Bernie knows this only too well and wishes to dump any British GP in 2010. IMHO 2009 will be the last British GP for many years."

"And where will they get the buses from? Around 90,000 punters on race day? Divided by 50 bus seats that's 1800 bus journeys, the vast majority between 7am and 12 noon? Let's say (charitably) an average of 45 mins return journey, so each bus will complete approximately 7 trips in that time, so circa 257 buses needed. And how will they pay for them? No doubt an additional cost to the punter or included in the ticket price? Either way it'll increase the cost of attending (yet again) - not to mention massive queues for the buses delaying circuit entry... "

"I've been forced to 'attend' a motorsport event using this concept of 'arrival'.......and even though the bus ride was short, it's still a pain in the *** !
I wish the Donongton organizers all the best....they'll need it.....nothing like returning from a sporting event being crammed onto a bus with some loud mouth drunk vomitting his lunch all over you on the ride home.As I mentioned, I did this public transport thing ONCE.....I'll NEVER do it again."
