Button: 2009 could yield wins for Honda

Saturday 29th November 2008

Jenson Button is confident the 2009 regulations could see Honda once again return to the podium - and perhaps even the top step.

Next year's Championship will see a whole host of new rules introduced into Formula One, including new aerodynamic regulations, slick tyres and KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System).

And the Brit reckons these rules could play into Honda's hands, perhaps even yielding the team's first win since the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix.

"The last two years have been very difficult for all of us, but I think we have a very strong team and we have a real passion for racing, so things will come good for us," he told the 25,000 Honda fans gathered at the end-of-season 'Honda Racing Thanks Day' at Motegi earlier this week.

"I've already seen what is happening with the car for next year, and it looks very positive.

"It feels more like 2006, when I got three podiums and I won my first race. So it's all very positive, and I'm hoping to get some more wins next year."

"how ironic after less than a week its all bad again!!!"

"Go on Jens! To be honest Honda winning sounds a bit far fetched but with the regulations changing and the new team structure you never know. I personally think Jenson could hold his own with any driver out there and is probably the most underrated driver - he just needs a well balanced car with a good front end to make things work. If it hadn't been for poor career choices, being ill-advised, and being dropped at Williams in 2001 for the significantly less talented JP Montoya, I think Jens would have won several GP's and maybe even a championship by now. Instead he has often ended up in a dog of a car (benneton 2001 particularly and also Honda's recent inability to build a decent car for him). Hope it works out better next year!"

"Not just yet... are we forgetting BMW, not to mention the big dawgs... a sure bet amongst your league... Red Bull w/Vettel. That's it."
