Vettel 'dreams' of a Ferrari drive

Monday 1st December 2008

Sebastian Vettel has revealed that his dream is to win the F1 World title and to do so while racing for Ferrari.

The Red Bull Racing driver has already been tipped as a future F1 Champion, with those claims gaining some credence when he won this year's Italian GP while racing for Toro Rosso.

And although his dream of winning the World title is still someway off, Vettel concedes his other dream of racing for Ferrari may have to come true before he can claim the crown.

Asked whether he'd rather be World Champion or drive for Ferrari, Vettel told El Pais: "To be World Champion.

"But, being realistic, you cannot win the title unless you have one of the best cars on the grid. And Ferrari have demonstrated that they know how to make them.

"Of course, it would be a dream to race one of their cars in the future."

And should the German ever race for Ferrari it would be another step towards cementing the German media's nickname for the 21-year-old 'Baby Schumi'.

Vettel, though, says he's his own man.

"As a child he (Schumacher) was my idol and he continues to be so. He is a great person, nothing arrogant about him. But I'm not trying to imitate him," he said.

"Everyone must find his own style. You can never copy an Alonso or a Schumacher. Fernando is, and always will be, his own man and when someone comes behind they will not be the new Alonso. As it is so with Schumacher.

"There is no one like them. They are unique."

"enzo_kemm, what a load of crap. There have been many talanted, clean, respected drivers win the crown and there will be many more.

Young Vettle drove well this year and showed many older hands a clean set of heels in a car that is maybe not as competitive as the top teams. But as for Ferrari, we will see on that one. Would a prospective major sponsor or a twice world champ let this happen, I think not. Alonso will not drive for another team where his team mate is better than him and lets face it, Ferrari are not known to take on young talent."

"To be an F1 world champion, you have to be THE bad Guy!, the Vilan. Look at past f1 champs, theyve always been ruthless on track and none of the other drivers always like their driving style or their attitude.

VETTEL is tooo much of a good guy, and maybe one day he will be champion, but not with this good boy attitude. The same attitude massa had untill he started being ruthless on track and now everyone says massa is a championship contender, and he was nver called that while he was a good boy, so Vettel, good luck, but its high time u imitate schumi, alonso or even hamilton. cus obviously hes attitude has made him champion"

"ooohhh... vettel a ferrari fan is he?!

what a surprise, no wonder ron told lewis to move out of his way then in brazil, not forgetting he was being powered by a ferrari!!!

god knows what montezemolo promised vettel if he were to take out lewis in that race!!

remember norberto fontana in a ferrari powered sauber in jerez 1997? fontana later admitted that he was blocking villeneuve because ferrari told him to do so, in order for a certain mr. schumacher to win the title, and when they saw that their plan failed schumi turned his car into villeneuve, and the rest is history....."
