Alonso: I know Ferrari will give their best

Fernando Alonso says he has "peace of mind" about his decision to join Ferrari despite their dismal 2009 Championship.

Alonso is heading to Ferrari next season on the back of the Scuderia's worst campaign since 1993, the last time they finished as low as fourth in the Constructors' Championship.

Ferrari's chances of better result weren't helped by their decision, made just past the midway point of the season, to focus their attention on next year's car.

But while the decision spelt doom for their 2009 drivers, it will most likely benefit new signing Alonso.

"You have to try to be optimistic by nature," he told Cadena Ser radio. "I think what makes me calm is that going to Ferrari is a synonym of quietness, because you know they are giving their best.

"It's a team and a marque born for competition and so you know they are going to give it all for their car, and you know that Ferrari is usually among the first.

"Sometimes they win titles, sometimes they don't, but they never have a year that's too bad. I think going to Ferrari is the safest option for any driver.

"Out of the 20-22 drivers no one knows what things will be like next year, it's all again a big question mark and we'll see how the new cars perform.

"But I think being at Ferrari, or McLaren, or in good teams, gives you more peace of mind than at any other team because anything can happen."

"All of you said big words .... Alonso okey he is a good driver but he is not the best driver and we will see that next year!! Lets give VETTEL a seat at ferrari or lets give him a seat at maclaren and we will see who is the best driver..... And to work everything okey in a team thats why the call it "TEAM" is to have some character something that Alonso dose not have!!! I dont beleive that everything they say about Alonso are lies.... Maby some of you for your reasons dont want to beleive .... And i beleive if Kimi signes up with maclaren him and lewis will be unbetable!!! And nobody can blaim Kimi for not doing his best ..... But everybody can blaim Ferrari for not giving him or Massa a competitive car!! So we will see .... about Alonso ... :) "

"How long will it take for Fernando to start clamoring for Michelin tires ? If Fernando can convince Ferrari, the scuderia will convince the other teams to replace Bridgestone with Michellin in 2011. If Alonso eats to much good Italian food, he could start looking like the Michellin man. "

"For those of you who obviously have not watched F1 in the last 6 years. Ferrari can demand any driver that they want. Any driver, including Hamilton, would drop what they are doing if Ferrari offered a contract. That being said, they offered Alonso a contract. The only reason Kimi was with them was because Alonso had gone to Mclaren. So get real and realize that Alonso is the most sought after driver. Not because he is a "whiner, cheater, racist, or whatever lame excuse that has been pushed by the media and simple minded fanboys". It's because he is by far, the best driver and is te best at helping competent engineers fine tune cars for ultimate speed. Ferrari has been spending their resources for some time on their car for next year. Guess what boys, Ferrari cannot lose. As for Massa, I think he's great, but he has never shown that he was better than Alonso at anything except spinning the car in the wet. Look out everyone else, 2010 and beyond Championships are going to Alonso and Ferrari. "
