Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan believes Michael Schumacher will replace Jenson Button at the newly-named Mercedes team for next season.
World Champion Button joined Lewis Hamilton at McLaren earlier this week after the Brawn team with which he won the Drivers' title was renamed Mercedes.
Speculation has mounted that seven-time Champion Schumacher, who could not replace the injured Felipe Massa on a short-term deal at Ferrari last season because of a back injury picked up racing motorcycles, could be drafted into the team run by former Benetton and Ferrari colleague Ross Brawn.
Jordan, who ran an F1 team under his own name, told Radio Five Live: "I believe the Brawn team will have Michael Schumacher in it next year.
"And my reasons for believing that is that at Abu Dhabi, the grand prix, the last race Dr (Dieter) Zetsche - (chairman of the Daimler board) - Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher were deep in conversation and I believe it was to do with possibly joining the team as driver for the 2010 Championship."

"I believe he may be still competitive in today s F1 grid. On the other hand, Ross and Schumi made an unbeatable duo for many years. Ross still has it...let s wait and see if schumi still has it too."

"Schumi didn't even race for Ferrari this year (and c'mon, do someone believe this "pain in the neck" story?). It's clear he would not come back to the sport if he wasn't totally sure he had the best car on the grid."

"Schumi was a Merc Ddriver long before he raced for Ferrari (le Mans 99 i think) plus I would discredit any repots of him driving for them, but would not be suprised to see him as a team manager etc with Ross Brawn & Mercedes for Patriotic reasons (among others). I would hate to see him leave the Ferrari stable as he is MR Ferrari these days, but maybe he is not all that friendly with Monty & would like to put one on him :)
I doubt if Michael would leave Ferrri TBH"

"I think this WILL happen for three good reasons: (1) I think Schumi really DID want to race for Ferrari when Massa had his injury and he looked pretty convincing to me when he said he was disappointed to fail the fitness test(anyway, what had he to lose by racing again?) (2) he owes M-B a drive from Group C days and (3) Bernie will see to it anyway. If you don't believe me, think back to the excitement when everyone thought MS was going to drive the Ferrari again: Ticket sales soared, media in meltdown etc. Me? I think it would be great to see the Schum at the wheel and I reckon he'll embarrass a few so-called hotshoes on next year's grid. Bring it on!"
