Mercedes has downplayed rumours that Michael Schumacher will be racing for their Formula One team next season.
Last week, Mercedes purchased a majority stake in the Brawn GP F1 team, lost reigning World Champion Jenson Button to McLaren and found themselves the topic of rumours as the question of who will replace the Brit made headlines.
One man who has been linked to Button's seat is seven-time World Champion, Schumacher, who in the past Mercedes did attempt to lure away from Ferrari.
The reports gained momentum when former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan stated that he believes "the Brawn team will have Michael Schumacher in it next year."
He added: "Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher were deep in conversation and I believe it was to do with possibly joining the team as driver for the 2010 Championship."
However, Mercedes have now downplayed the reports, although did not give an emphatic no.
"It's clear that there will always be speculation as long as one cockpit is still free," a spokesman for the German carmaker told Reuters.
"And some speculations are nothing but dreams which will not come true."

"I got a letter from a source in ferrari that he is going to drive next year, i am not going to tell you who said either.also i heard it on the telly from the news that he wants to do it for 12 months and then decide."

"Reading between the lines it sounds like Merc want him in the seat. Stumbling blocks may be the Ferrari contract and actually whether Schumi wants to do it or not. And what about the gammy neck? Has anyone considered whether his neck will have recovered enough in time for winter testing? Still it would be good to see him back. "

"I reckon it's just a PR exercise by Merc to regain some of the attention that went to McLaren when Button defected. And why even report on what Eddie Jordan says? Does anyone give anything he says any credence at all? mrkjf - Kimi doesn't have a seat because he's asking for too big a wage and doesn't play the corporate PR game as well as some. It's got nothing to do with his driving ability."

"AndyGT is that why Kimi hasnt got a seat?"
