Timo Glock believes Toyota are leading the pack behind McLaren, Ferrari and BMW.
Toyota are fifth in the Constructors' Championship after Jarno Trulli picked up a combined eight points in Malaysia and Bahrain.
Glock, who was agonisingly close to finishing in the points at the Sakhir circuit, believes the race to finish fourth behind the top three will be closely contested affair.
"The pack behind McLaren, Ferrari and BMW is very tight but we seem to be best of the rest of the moment," he said.
"The top three teams are not so far in front and it is so tight between Red Bull, Williams and us.
"The whole team is working really hard and feeling optimistic."
The German driver believes he would've pipped Nico Rosberg to eighth place if he it hadn't been for his gearbox problem.
"I was really close because I had the pace to beat Nico Rosberg in the final round of pit stops and get eighth place," the 26-year-old said.
"Unfortunately I had a gearbox control problem which meant that we switched to back-up mode.
"Without that problem I think I would have been eighth."
